I’ve never written a ‘soapbox’ piece for Gaming Precision before. Even in times of being so frustrated with some of the ignorance that comes from some of the gaming communities, I tend to keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself.
Those of you that follow me should be well aware by now that I am an avid Nintendo gamer, with my favorite series from them being The Legend of Zelda. I’ve been playing The Legend of Zelda since the original game was released on the NES way back when, and since then I have played every Zelda game there is (aside from the horrid Phillips CD-I ones… but what true fans counts those abominations?). Needless to say, I know pretty much all there is to know that is Legend of Zelda, from everything in the Hyrule Hystoria book to tidbits about every LoZ titled that has been released.
In the past few years, I’ve seen some pretty dumb stuff come from the LoZ community, but I say little because half the time those who are whining and whimpering about something do not even know what they’re griping about! I’ve questioned some ‘fans’ on their lame reasonings, only to have them not be able to answer me correctly due to lack of LoZ knowledge (…if there were a LoZ school…I’d be top in my class, no doubt 😛). I mean, come on, this series has played a pretty big role in my life from making me the gamer I am today, to being there for me when I was having some pretty tough times in my life, and the series is still there for me to this day.
So enough banter as to why I love LoZ and so on, now to the reason I’m REALLY here – “Linkle”.
Okay, okay, before you start up on me, I am in no way here to bash her, as I pretty much adore her already. I’m here to complain on those of you out there who keep referring to her as “Female Link“… –insert massive facepalm here–
Isn’t she just the cutest?!
She is NOT a female Link, nor will she be taking his place. She is an original character (though even I can see her resemblance to our dear Link). She began as concept art for the original Hyrule Warriors, but for whatever reason, they chose to drop her… until now.
She is set to appear in Hyrule Warriors Legends, the 3DS port of the Wii U title. Supposedly she raises cuccos in a small village, and wields dual crossbows (pretty cool!). Yes, she looks a lot like Link… but female Link she most definitely is not. A lot of you out there are all bent out of shape due to this character, and for what? It’s not like she is taking Link’s place or anything close to that… And why gripe so much over an original character that isn’t even in a main Legend of Zelda game??? In all honesty, I’d LOVE to see her in one of the main games…as Link’s younger sister, or even his twin for that matter. Take it back to the days of Wind Waker, where Link had to first save his sister Aryll before he even began his search-and-rescue for in infamous Princess Zelda. I think it’d be awesome, as the possibilities for alternate stories are endless now. Anyways, my two cents is that I love her and don’t understand the massive hate she is getting. We’re the Legend of Zelda gaming community… can’t we all at least be happy that we are still getting LoZ games? Although… there is only ONE thing that I don’t understand about Linkle… and that’s her name (Seriously? Linkle?! Sounds like a horrid hybrid of Link and Tingle… why not ‘Linka’ or ‘Linkara’… SOMETHING other than Linkle…).
