Doom Alpha Test This Weekend

new Doom

Signs up for the alpha testing on the multiplayer for the new Doom title came last week, and now it’s following through this weekend. Starting on Friday Oct 23 at 12:01 am EDT, those that were invited to the test will be able to access to the alpha, which will then close Sunday Oct 25 at 11:59 EDT.

As was previously confirmed, the test will consist of 6v6 deathmatches in a map titled Heatwave. Participants will get access to six different weapons and two pieces of equipment, and will further have the option of choosing either a pre-set load out or to build their own.

Bethesda further described what they call “game-changer” items as follows:

  • The Demon Rune, which can turn the tide of a battle by transforming a player into a bad-ass Revenant fully loaded with dual rocket launchers and a jetpack.
  • The Gauss Cannon, a high-powered weapon that can destroy a foe in a single blast.
  • Power-ups like Quad Damage and Invisibility – you can guess what each of these does.

This alpha test is different from the game’s planned beta test, which will come next year as a free pass to everyone who pre-orders Wolfenstein: The New Order. And unlike the beta, the alpha will have a limited number of participants. In describing the alpha, Bethesda said that it’s “a series of development-driven tests designed to stress test the game’s dedicated server infrastructure in a real-world consumer environment.”

The Doom beta will be out next year, as will the game eventually itself for the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
