Square Enix Announces New PC Mech Game Figureheads

Posted June 9, 2015 by Bunneh3000 in News

Pew pew pew. Stomp stomp stomp!

No, this isn’t the intro to a new game with dinos that have lasers attached to their friggin’ heads. Instead it is yet another adventure into Bunneh’s favorite genre, mechs!

Apparently Square Enix is taking another dive into the mech madness with a new Japanese PC mech shooter called Figure Heads. Now let’s face it. When it come to Japanese games, you must be prepared to throw caution and logic to the wind, right? The title just off the top doesn’t really make sense to me and makes me think that someone really ought to think about rebranding game title translations.

Now that I’m off that soapbox, all that we have to go on with this game is a trailer in Japanese. From the beginning you notice that this game seems to be more humanoid than some versions of mechs seen in games like Chromehounds or Mechwarrior. These mechs are carrying their weapons and have shoulder mounted missile racks much like the assault machines used in Robotech (a la Veritech fighters when they aren’t transformed into F-14s).

Later on in the trailer, you get to see a bit of customization of the mechs and of scantily clad teenage female pilots. I guess it wouldn’t be a Japanese game without that, eh? Still, while my Japanese isn’t that good, states that this will be a 5v5 PVP game. Still very early to get anything concrete out of this so stay tuned.
