New Metal Gear Solid Will be the Last of the Series

Posted March 6, 2015 by Kat in News

The upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is intended to be the final game in the main series.  Specifically, it should close out the entirety of the series’ primary storyline and wrap things up – though still leaving possibility for continued peripheral spin-offs and the like.

Series creator Hideo Kojima explained that not only will The Phantom Pain see the story end, but that it will be the final main installment in the main installment.  However, Kojima – by his own admission – has a tendency to announce he’s finished with projects only to return to them later.  Which certainly indicates there could be continual products from reboots and spin-offs.  “I always say ‘I always say this will be my last Metal Gear’,” Kojima said, “but the games in the series that I’ve personally designed and produced–Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, peace Walker, and now MGSV–are what constitute a single Metal Gear Saga. With MGSV, I’m finally closing the loop on that saga.

The Phantom Pain will finally close the loop on the story of how the MGS3 protagonist Big Boss grew into the antagonist for the 1987 title Metal Gear.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will release to consoles on September 1 and then on the PC September 15.
