Phantom Dust Studio Closes But Reboot Still in the Works
The state of the Phantom Dust reboot is up in the air as the game’s original developer has closed. Darkside Game Studios has officially shut its doors, with reports saying that Microsoft canceled their intended reboot of the game, which in turn led to the closure of the studio.
But all hope is not lost, as there’s still indication that the reboot is in the works. A spokesperson for Microsoft and executives on Twitter have stated that the title is still in the works and in development for the Xbox One. The head of marketing for the Xbox Aaron Greenberg even said that the project is moving “full steam ahead.” However further specifics have not yet been given – including who exactly ill be creating the project.
Phantom Dust is a card-based action-strategy game originally released for the Xbox back in 2004. Microsoft released a trailer for the reboot back at last year’s E3, though pointedly did not indicate who would be backing said reboot. Hopefully we’ll learn more in the weeks to come.
Darkside Game Studios has a history of contribution to other major publishers, like 2K in BioShock 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, as well as Microsoft, on the likes of Gears of War: Judgement and Sunset Overdrive.
