WoW Unlikely To Add Garrisons Feature To Future Expansions

Posted January 25, 2015 by Bunneh3000 in News

World of Warcraft has gotten a huge response from its community regarding the Garrison feature within the Worlds of Draenor expansion. From the sounds of it, this new ‘mode’ if you will, is much like taking the old school strategy games of Starcraft and Warcraft days and merging them with the existence of World Of Warcraft’s structure.

Your garrison is your home and within it you can build structures and attract followers. These followers are NPCs that can be leveled up, equipped with items, and assigned various tasks like getting gold, forging items, going on raids, and much more. The community, apparently LOVES this new feature and sees great potential for expanding it or using it in other expansions.

Unfortunately, Blizzard has no plans to extend the use of this feature in future expansions.

“As we think into expansions beyond WOD, I think in many ways the Garrison as an entity is very much a product of Draenor. But I think the gameplay, offline progression, having a sense of ownership and a place to call home, having followers to do your work and send out into the world in service of your cause, I think those are potential more universal things that even if there aren’t 1:1 of those terms or systems, the concepts and the type of gameplay has been embraced and so we think it’s clearly a great part of World of Warcraft.”

This whole new feature is quite innovative and has managed to bring back scores of subscribers who had abandoned the game. We’ll see if elements of this feature will make its way into future expansions.
