Salutations one and all, it’s Friday, the end of the week and you know what that means – It’s time for the Weekly News Rundown! A weekly feature where I, GP’s very own Nightingale, walks you through some of the bigger news stories in the world of gaming from the past week.

Sony has released some news today that pertains to 2011 PlayStation Network attack that compromised well over 70 million PSN accounts. Last year, a $15 million settlement was agreed upon, and since then Sony has been looking into the PSN users of the US so that they may receive some type of compensation. Basically, anyone that has had a PSN account, Qriocity, or SOE account before May 15th, of 2011 can gain access to documents in order to file a claim. To file such a claim you can follow this link to the settlement’s website.

Of course, what you get will all depend on what account you had/have. Here are some of the options given by Sony, via Gamespot:

  • Payment equal to paid wallet balances (if $2 or more) in PSN or SOE accounts that have been inactive since the intrusions.

  • One or more of the following: a free PS3 or PSP game, three free PS3 themes, or a free three-month subscription to PlayStation Plus (once valid claims exceed $10 million, class members will still be eligible for one free month of PlayStation Plus).

  • A free month of Music Unlimited for Qriocity account holders who did not have a PSN account.

  • $4.50 in SOE Station Cash (amounts will be reduced proportionally if valid claims exceed $4 million).

For those who want to request forms via mail, here is the address:

PSN-SOE Settlement, PO Box 1947, Faribault, MN, 55021. You can also call 1-877-552-1284 for more info regarding the matter.

Another news story from this past week is about Club Nintendo. It’s been announced by Nintendo that their long running service will cease to exist come September of this year, and will then be replaced by a new rewards program. Those who sign up for the new service will get Flipnote Studio 3D for free for the 3DS. Those with Club Nintendo accounts have until September 30th to spend all of their coins. By the end of April, games and systems will no longer contain the codes used in the service to earn coins. The New 3DSXL will not include the codes either.

We can only hope the new program is just as good if not better than Club Nintendo. Here’s to hoping, fellow Nintendo lovers.

Ever wanted to play and test out the Sims 4? Well, now is your chance if you have an Origin account. Sims 4 has been added to Origin Game Time, and you have until February 2nd 10am PT/6pm GMT to add the Sims 4 Game Time to your library. You will be able to play the game for free for 48 hours upon starting it. Those who do so, then choose the purchase the game will be able to carry over their progress from Game Time.
