Transformers Universe MOBA To Shut Down In Jan. 2015

Posted December 18, 2014 by Bunneh3000 in News

Transformers video games can’t seem to catch a break.

Back in 2011, I remember attending the New York ComicCon even and seeing a MASSIVE booth for Transformers Universe. The concept back then was to have a Transformers MMO that would appeal to today’s new generation of Transformers fans. At that time they would invite kids to come to the both, ‘create’ their own Autobot or Decepticon, and then take a green screen picture ‘with’ their new creation. Ah those were the days.

Eventually developer Jagex retooled their vision for the game and it became a free to play MOBA much in the same line as Heroes of the Storm or Smite. Apparently the retool wasn’t successful either as Hasbro has decided cancel the project. Here’s the ominous statement given:

“this decision comes at an important time for both companies as they both realign their plans and focuses for 2015″

Players have already started receiving refunds for their in-game purchases. The plan apparently is to shut the servers down by January 31st. Interestingly enough it looks as if the Transformers Universe website is down at the time of this article’s posting.

Here is a bit of a statement caught from the website on the developer’s blog:

“Once again we want to thank all of the players that have played Transformers Universe and all those that have worked on the project. We’re sure you have thoughts and feelings that you’d like to share on this, so please do so on our forums,” the team said.

“Please bear in mind that this is obviously a challenging time for all involved, especially the CM team. There will be plenty of things we can’t comment on, so please respect their position.”
