Super Smash Bros. Wii U Nintendo Direct Rundown

Posted October 23, 2014 by Felisha "Nightingale" Silva in Features

Today Nintendo aired their special Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct “50-Fact Extravaganza”, and your resident Nintendo fan is here to rundown the 50 (and more!) facts that were named during the live presentation.

  • 1. Default Fighter Line-Up

Basically your starting roster on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will contain more than 40 characters! Yes, you will still have some to unlock, but that for a starting number of playable characters is pretty impressive.

  • 2. Resolution

The resolution on SSB Wii U will be the highest the graphics have ever been for a SSB game. The 3DS resolution is around 400×240, while the Wii U is around 1920×1080.

  • 3. 8-Player Smash

You will be able to battle on SSB with up to 8 players simultaniously.

  • 4. Bigger Stages

With being able to play an 8-player match, one would need bigger stages, don’t ya think?

  • 5. Danger Zone

Danger zones will be new places in the stages that will inflict extra damage to your character if they make contact with said area.

  • 6. Duel-Plane Battles

Just like in Donkey Kong Country, you’ll be able to fight in some stages in both the foreground and background.

  • 7. Number of Stages

In SSB Wii U you get even more stages than in the 3DS version, stages such as Skyloft, Birth of Eldin, and Final Destination.

  • 8. Miiverse Stage

Nintendo is still hard at work on this stage and it won’t be ready when the game releases, but when this stage becomes available Nintendo will showcase artwork from the Miiverse of the characters chosen for the match, as a way to cheer on your chosen character.

  • 9. Palutena’s Guidance

Much like the Snake Codex from SSB Brawl, we now have Palutena’s Guidance. When using Pit press down on the D-Pad to start up the conversations between he, Palutena and other Kid Icarus characters.

  • 10. Metal Face

  • 11. Ridley

Ridley makes his comeback, and if fought against enough, will aid you In battle.

  • 12. Coin Battles

  • 13. Stamina Battles

  • 14. Special Smash

Special Smash is where you create the Smash game you want. Feel free to go all out as these battles do not affect your records.

  • 15. Item Frequency

Turn items off and on with this handy function.

  • 16. My Music

If you were impressed with the amount of music in the 3DS version, you’ll be amazed with what they have on the Wii U!

Change what music you want to hear most on the menu screen.
