PS4 Still Outselling the Xbox One

Posted September 13, 2014 by Kat in News

NPD has released sales information for the month of August in the US and there’s some good news all around.  To no surprise, the PlayStation 4 is continuing the win the market, still outselling the Xbox One now for the 8th month in a row.  Sony also pointed out that The Last of Us: Remastered was the top-selling first-party title for the month, continuing that game’s endurance and success well into the new generation.

At the same time, even though it hasn’t managed the match Sony in sales, the Xbox One has seen significant gains, likely helped along with the loss of the Kinect and drop in price.  Microsoft has said that hardware sales for their next-gen system nearly “doubled” over the month of July, which is an immensely impressive gain.  Additionally, hardware sales for next-gen systems made up 70% of the total hardware sold over the course of the month, which is the highest that percentage has been since the Xbox One and PS4 were released last November.

The software, on the other hand, was a bit down overall compared to August of last year, in part due to fewer big name titles being released this time of year.  The top-selling games for the month were:

1. Madden NFL 15

2. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

3. Minecraft

4. The Last of Us

5. Call of Duty: Ghosts

6. Lego Marvel Super Heroes

7. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare

8. Watch Dogs

9. Battlefield 4

10. The Lego Movie Video Game
