Assassins Creed Going Off The Rails With Rogue
We knew it was coming, but we didn’t expect the reveal to arrive so soon. Assassins Creed Comet, the code name of the current generation Assassins Creed game, will be getting a new name, which was revealed in the September issue of Game Informer (via VG 24/7). Assassins Creed Rogue will transport players to 1751. Play as Shay Patrick Cormac, an Assassin, who is betrayed by the Assassins Brotherhood after a failed mission and joins the Templar Order in order to “wipe out all who turned against him.”
We’ve been waiting for a Templar to become the protagonist in an Assassins Creed game for a while, however this title won’t be a massive departure from past games. It will incorporate the naval combat mechanics last seen in Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. This title will feature improved mechanics that should make the naval combat a lot more fun and last longer:
- Defend against new enemy tactics, like reverse boarding, where the Assassins attempt to board your ship and overthrow your crew.
- Use your new arsenal to wreak havoc on the open seas. Burning oil will leave a fiery trail that will consume enemy ships. The Puckle Gun will keep your enemies back with its continuous fire, much like a machine gun.
- Your environment can be used to get an edge on your opponents. Destroy icebergs to gain additional loot or ram through ice sheets to overtake enemy ships.
The three locations that will be featured in the title will be: The North Atlantic Ocean (explore this expansive naval playground to your heart’s content), The River Valley (a mix of navigating rivers and heading ashore to explore this Native American Frontier) and, finally, the greatest city in the world, New York, fully recreated as it existed in the 18th century.
Assassins Creed Rogue will be hitting store shelves later this year on November 11. Remember to check back here for more Assassins Creed news, rants and craziness. Until then – Game Responsibly!
