New Mass Effect 4 Details Out of E3

Mass Effect 1

With all the hype and excitement of E3, BioWare and Mass Effect fans can rest somewhat easier now that we’ve gotten actual official confirmation that yes, another Mass Effect game is in the works.  Unfortunately, we still don’t know a whole lot about it – even the teaser itself was pretty coy – but it is nice to have affirmation that the studio is indeed looking to continue the franchise.

BioWare has assured fans that the new game (games?) won’t be ignoring the original trilogy – though how that pertains to the possibility of it being in the future or the past (or perhaps somehow even concurrently) is still open for interpretation.  BioWare’s Aaryn Flynn gave an interview where some explanation was given: “I can’t get into that too much,” Flynn said.“We’ve got a really cool idea for how we’re going to carry on – keep the trilogy separate but at the same time give a bunch of nods to fans who enjoyed the trilogy in the past. That’s all going to come out soon.”  When asked about the possibility of returning characters, he would only definitively say that the Krogan will indeed be a part of the story and universe.

What this likely all means is that the game is too early in the development process for BioWare and EA to drop too many details.  So while it’s exciting to finally get what little information we have – along with a sweet teaser trailer from the EA press conference – it does also mean it’ll be a long time coming before we learn more, let alone actually get to play the game itself.
