Retron 5 Available Now

Posted May 23, 2014 by Felisha "Nightingale" Silva in News

The Retron 5 graced us with its presence as of yesterday. The latest from Hyperkin, priced at $140 USD, is probably the best as of yet from the Retron series. The Retron 5 will use HDMI outputs to display the games…how many games you ask? Ten games…ten retro games. The Retron 5 will play NES, SNES, Famicom, Super Famicom, Genesis, Master System (which will need an additional converter), Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. The system even supports NTSC and PAL versions of the game. What more could one want?! The Retron 5 will even have a menu system complete with video settings, and will also have a max resolution output of 720p.

Aside from the wireless controller that comes with the Retron 5, it also features ports for all of the retro controllers for everything from the NES to the Master System. According to Hyperkin, the company behind the Retron systems, states that all pre-orders were sold out. Of course, you can check with you local video game retailer, other than GameStop, if you’re looking to acquire one for yourself.

I myself have a Retron 3, and love it. The Retron 3 plays NES, SNES, and Genesis. But something tells me I’ll be skipping 4 and upgrading straight to the 5.
