BioWare Discusses Halamshiral in Dragon Age: Inquisition

Posted May 29, 2014 by Kat in News

BioWare has been forging the path toward the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition and every new reveal is all the more enticing.  The latest in their series is regarding the area of Halamshiral and The Winter Palace.  With these two specific areas comes confirmation of gamers entering into the country of Orlais in this game, a place often spoken of but not yet explored in any Dragon Age game.

Halamshiral itself is described as a haven utilized by the nobility that remains willfully separated from the civil war that is destroying the countryside of Orlais around them.  The Inquisition itself will be traveling to the heart of this sanctuary in The Winter Palace, where combat will be traded in for a game of politics, dealing with rumor and scandal.

Level designer Chris Corfe explained the situation, saying, “The civil war is now at an impasse.  The faction leaders are at a peace talk at the Winter Palace in Halamshiral, a magnificent Orlesian structure built on ancient elven grounds. The Inquisition is here to find and stop an assassin.”  Events look to be centered around a costume party.  As much of Orlais has been in past games, inspiration for design of the palace – among other things – was heavily influenced by French history.
