DiveKick Developer Takes Over Killer Instinct

Posted April 1, 2014 by Bunneh3000 in News

Killer Instinct is about to get a shot of DiveKick in the arse! Ok, not really. What is true though is the developer of the funny and simplistic fighting game called Iron Galaxy has been brought on to help Microsoft with the next “season” of Killer Instinct content. The original developer, Double Helix, was purchased by Amazon and apparently will have to continue their support of the upcoming Strider reboot as well as develop for Amazon’s rumored upcoming Android based gaming console.

Dave Lang, CEO of Iron Galaxy, had the following to say about the deal:

“This is an amazing opportunity to work on a game and a genre we are super passionate about,” he said. “… I was a fan of the game. And to get to now take it over and start with this great base … we can’t wait to show people what we’re going to be doing down the road.”

Killer Instinct was an Xbox One launch day free to play fighter that sought to revive the 1994 fighter originally released by Rare. While gamers may not have been thrilled with the format of the free to play experience, those that took the Killer Instinct dip in the pool did enjoy the return of the massive combos and counters the original was known for.

Double Helix has put the finishing touches on the first season of content which includes Fulgore, an Arcade Mode, and online lobbies with spectating. Reportedly they have worked with Iron Galaxy to get them up to speed with the game so they can begin the next season of content.

Iron Galaxy is also working on the PS Vita port of Borderlands 2.
