Art Director Nate Wells Leaves Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog art director Nate Wells has left the studio, departing earlier this month to join indie developer Giant Sparrow.  It was recently announced that he departed his position as Lead Artist back on April 3 and joined the indie developer who is best known for their 2012 hit The Unfinished Swan.  Wells had previously worked at Irrational Games for 13 years before joining Naughty Dog back in 2012.  Among his time there, he worked extensively on the development for The Last of Us.

Giant Sparrow is reportedly on development of a yet-to-be announced title.  While they did, at one time, announce its title as Edith Finch, they later recanted and once again called it their “Unfinished Giant Sparrow Project.”  They also explained that “it’s not a sequel to The Unfinished Swan but it’s not a million miles away either.”  Wells will be reportedly working on this new project for the studio.

Nate Wells now joins the ranks of departing Naughty Dog employees that includes game director Justin Richmond, and Amy Hennig, best known for writing the Uncharted games.  Richmond has gone on to join Riot Games, while Hennig is now working for EA at Visceral Games on a new Star Wars game.
