New Studio Set Up By Call of Duty and Spec Ops Devs

Posted March 19, 2014 by Ivan "Tech Curse" Mashkov in News

Tangentlemen is a new studio from the creators of Spec Ops: The Line, Call of Duty, Tomb Raider and Ninja Gaiden that “is a curious new start-up studio dedicated to uncanny interactive experiences.” The team includes: “Toby Gard (Creator of Lara Croft and the original Tomb Raider, and Creative Director of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z), Rich Smith (Art Director of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and artist from Call of Duty MW Series), John Garcia-Shelton (Producer of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Medal of Honor / Call of Duty games), myself – Cory Davis (Creative Director Spec Ops: The Line, Lead Designer Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z), and a secret crew of genius tinkerers.”

“On behalf of my fellow Tangentlemen, I’d like to cordially welcome you to our new sensory deprivation chamber intended exclusively for esoteric communications! Now that you’re here, let me tell you a little bit about our Quorum of Creators and the Unfathomable Experiments that we have in store!” – an excerpt from Mr. Davis’s first post titled “Hello World”

They met during the development of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z and “quickly developed an eerie attraction to one another.” As a result of “the rocketing costs of AAA development led to a creative stagnation in games until the recent explosion of the indie scene,” Tangentlemen was formed “to take some creative risks.” Cory Davis, co-creative director, said: “we see each creative dilemma as a dance with the devil, so they say. We live for those challenges.”

The all-start cast will be working on an “existential, surreal horror trip with a working title of Daedalus,” which is still a concept and being developed in the “top-secret development chamber (garage).”
