Gran Turismo 5 Servers Will Be Turned Off

Gran Turismo 5

It has been three years since Gran Turismo 5 launched to give PS3 owners the premier racing simulator. Now that the latest entry in the series is out, Sony is going to turn off the servers for the online components of the game, including Online Lobby, Seasonal Events, Museum, News, Community, Remote Race, Log in Bonus and Online Dealership, after 03:00 EDT May 30, 2014.

All DLC for the game will disappear from the PS Store on April 30, 2014, though most DLC can be re-downloaded at any time. The “Paint Pack” and “Racing Gear Pack” will no longer be available for download in any form after the cutoff date, however the rest of the DLC will still be in your download list and available at any time. The “Racing Car Pack” and “Courses Pack” will only be available to download only if players purchase the “Family Upgrade” for this content free of charge.

Gran Turismo TV will stop distributing all programs after March 14, 2014 and will be terminated completely on March 14, 2015, except for the opening and ending movies.

This isn’t the first game that will have it’s online services turned off and it, certainly, won’t be the last. However it is hard to say how many gamers will be affected by this shutdown.
