SimCity Coming Offline

SimCity Offline

The launch of SimCity was a disaster for Electronic Arts. The game’s always-on DRM prevented players from accessing SimCity for weeks after the game’s launch. Now the game works like it should, however the DRM is still in place. That will change soon, when Maxis introduces update 10, which will allow player to play the game in singleplayer mode without an internet connection.

“In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world. What’s new is the Single Player Mode, which allows you to play the game Offline by yourself. And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally, you can save and load to your heart’s content. Our team will be delivering a follow-up blog that will outline the full details in the near future so stay tuned.” – Patrick Buechner, General Manager of the Maxis Emeryville studio

This new mode will allow fans of the series to create mods “without compromising the integrity of the Online game”. No date has been announced for the update, but we can expect it to appear soon. Gaming Precision will keep you up to date on the latest SimCity updates.
