Kerbal Space Program To Get NASA Mission

Posted January 30, 2014 by Ivan "Tech Curse" Mashkov in News
Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program is one of the best space flight simulators out there. Since it launched in 2011 the game has become a runaway success and has appeared in classrooms as an educational tool, called KerbalEdu. You don’t know what apoapsis and periapsis mean until you launch your first rocket into orbit in the game. Now this great title is getting leveled up by the geniuses at NASA.

A recent Polygon feature revealed that the Kerbal Space Program will be getting a special NASA missions that will have the kerbals land on an asteroid bound for Kerban, their home planet, and redirect it into a stable orbit and save the world from destruction. This mission is meant to be extremely difficult and based on the agency’s current plan. NASA’s current goal is delivering astronauts to an asteroid by 2025 and bringing them back safely. Players will be able to get an understanding of the complexity of “the equivalent of parallel parking one missile next to another.” No date or price for the mission pack has been announced.
