2K Czech Office Closing
Major changes are happening at the 2K Czech offices in Prague, within indications that the offices will be closing, sending some staff over to Office #2 in Brno, as well as general layoffs. The original office in Prague is where Mafia 3 was under development, while Brno is where Mafia 2 was created. Indications are that the Prague office will be closed within a few months. In addition, 10 key developers from 2K Czech were relocated to the 2K main offices in Novato, California.
These changes were later confirmed by 2K UK who explained, “We have relocated and consolidated our Prague facility to centralise resources in our location in Brno. Additionally, we are transferring some development resources from Prague and Brno to 2K headquarters in Novato, CA. The transition will both strength the integration of the 2K Czech team with our award winning development teams, and better align cross-functional business practices. As part of this realignment, we are adjusting our staffing levels, resulting in the elimination of some positions.”
Mafia 3, in the meanwhile, still appears to be in limbo. While recently transitioned into a next gen game for the Xbox One and PS4, at one point there were plans to make it a launch title. At this juncture, only speculation can be made of which branch of 2K will complete the title, and when it will finally see release.
