Weekly News Rundown: PS4 Sales, Lindsay Lohan Vs. GTAV, & The Skull Kid?

Posted December 6, 2013 by Felisha "Nightingale" Silva in News

It’s the end of the week yet again and it’s time for another installment of my Weekly News Rundown. For all of you gamers and gamerettes out there who may be unfamiliar with what exactly this is, this is a simple rundown of gaming news stories that I thought were relavent and entertaining.

Let’s start off with some good ol’ Sony news. As of December 1st, the PlayStation 4 had sold over 2.1 million systems, with 700,000 of the consoles selling in Europe and Australasia on it’s launch weekend. This means that the PS4 sales have doubled since it first released here in North America on November 15th. Sony is hoping to reach a goal of 5 million before the end of March 2014.

Moving on, some more news related to the PS4. A release window for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for the PS4 has been announced. In a post that was translated by Siliconera it states that the game will release early next year, perhaps in April, since the beta test is scheduled for February 22nd, 2014. Neat thing about it, is if you already have the PS3 version, you will be able to upgrade it for free. Just keep in mind, once you upgrade, you lose your rights to play the PS3 version…just a word of caution…

Now for a bit of news that isn’t even news at all really, but still entertaining nonetheless. Due to ‘anonymous sources’ actress Lindsay Lohan is considering suing Rockstar Games, the company behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise. She believes that supposedly her likeness was used in the GTAV game without her permission. Apparently, there are several scenes and parts in the game that she claims are made to point fun at her, such as the mission in the game where you have to escort the actress Lacey Jones away from all of the paparazzi. Lohan says that the actress in the game resembles her. There are several other pieces in the game that she thinks are fashioned after her and her poor life choices. But as it stands, no legal action has been made against the company just yet, so as it stands, all of this is still merely just a rumor.

Big news for fans of the persona series earlier this week. Atlus announced four new persona titles, all coming out sometime next year. First was Persona 5 which will launch late 2014 for PS3. Also Nintendo will get some Persona action as well with the 3DS title Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. We will also be getting another Persona fighting game, a sequel to Persona 4 Arena called The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold. What a title, huh? And last but not least, the Vita will be getting a title called Persona 4: Dancing All Night, which will be a rhythm and dancing game coming in fall of 2014.

Now for a bit of Nintendo news to end our weekly news venture. First off, we now have another new 3DS XL bundle to add to our Christmas lists. Nintendo recently came out with a Mario and Luigi themed 3DS XL, that comes with a pre-installed copy of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. The system is silver in color and dons a gold outlined picture of Mario and Luigi. The bundle is priced at $199.99.

Next on the Nintendo news bit, an assist trophy was announced recently for the new Super Smash Bros. game coming to the Wii U sometime early next year. That assist trophy is none other than the infamous Skull Kid from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Could this be yet another hint and a future remake of the beloved Legend of Zelda title? First it appears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, then again in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and now in the new Smash Bros. game. Coincidence? Possibly, but who knows. Eiji Aonuma can be toying with us all…but we will just have to wait and see.
