PlayStation 4 Sales Top 2 Million Units

The next generation has started with the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this November. As a result Gaming Precision has some number for you to mull over:

  • Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales exceeded 1 million units in the first 24 hours since their respective launches.
  • As of December 1st, the Sony has sold more than 2.1 million next generation consoles.

These numbers aren’t that surprising if you consider the prediction made by Jack Trenton on stage at the Tokyo Game Show this September. The CEO of SCE Group and the man in charge of PlayStation predicted that the company would be able to sell about 5 million PS4s by the end of the 2013 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2013.

It is interesting that Microsoft hasn’t revealed any recent numbers, which could indicate that the PS4 is outselling its closest rival, by a wide margin. Then again rumors have been floating around that the Xbox One was outselling the PS4 on Black Friday due to a lack of consoles. In any case, the battle for the hearts, minds and wallets of gamers continues. For the latest updates in the consoles wars, stay tuned to Gaming Precision.
