GP Om Noms Presents Fat Princess French Vanilla Cake: “CAKE FOR EVERYONE!!!”
Nightingale here, and this is my latest installment to GP Om Noms, a feature here at Gaming Precision where we recreate a food or drink from a video game, and tell you exactly how you can make it yourselves.
In my past couple of pieces I did savory foods, so I believe it’s time for a change and that means it’s time for dessert! In this piece I’ll teach you how to make a delicious layered French vanilla cake, inspired by Sony’s PlayStation exclusive, Fat Princess!!!
For those of you unfamiliar with this title, let me fill you in on the details of it. This game originally released back on the PlayStation 3 back in July of 2009 here in North America. Another version of the game, Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake, came out for the PlayStation Portable in May of 2010.
The game is a real-time strategy-action game. It’s an online multiplayer that consists of up to 32 players, all with the same mission: Bring their princess back to their base. One team is wearing blue, while the opposite team is wearing red, and you have six character classes to choose from: Warrior, Villager, Worker, Ranger, Priest or Mage. There are also three downloadable classes you can get, Ninja, Pirate, and Giant. And how do you keep the opposing team from capturing their princess back? Well, you feed her massive amounts of cake of course! Each piece making her heavier and heavier and even more hard to capture and take back to their base. Hence the name “Fat Princess”.
Now let’s get this cake-making underway! First, we’ll start with everything you will need in order to make an awesome, fluffy cake batter. You will need the following:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 whole eggs, brought to room temperature
- 2 3/4 cups of flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
Once you have all your ingredients together, you will want to preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prep two 9 inch round cake pans. To prep the pans you will butter them, then dust them with flour, tapping out the excess. Mix all of the dry ingredients together, and set aside.
Beat your butter for three minutes of so until super fluffy, add in your sugar, then beat an additional 3 minutes. Add in your eggs one at a time, beating the mix after adding in each egg.
Slowly add your flour mixture one cup at a time, and alternate with some of the milk. Mix until incorporated then add in your vanilla extract, mixing it in well.
Pour the vanilla batter into your prepped pan, dividing it amongst them as evenly as is possible. Bake your cakes for 25-30 minutes, or until you can insert a toothpick or knife into the center and it comes out clean. Allow your cakes to cool. Once cooled, run a knife around the edge of the pans, releasing them from the pans. Sit your cakes aside, and now it is time to start on the frosting for your Fat Princess French vanilla cake!
For the frosting you will need:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 7 1/2 cups powdered sugar (or confectioner’s sugar)
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Beat your softened butter with about half of the powdered sugar. Add in you vanilla and evaporated milk. After mixing all of it together, add in the rest of the powdered sugar one cup at a time, until you achieve the consistency you want, and it is light and fluffy.
Take your frosting and spread it on the top of one cake, making a nice layer. Place your other cake on top of it, then cover the cake with the remainder of the frosting. For that added Fat Princess flare, you can use whipping cream to make those nice little peaks you see around the outside top of the cake, and then use either cherries or fresh strawberries to decorate each slice, just like in the picture below!
And ta-da, there you have it, your very own Fat Princess inspired cake! Time to make like a Fat Princess and eat up, CAKE FOR EVERYONE!!!
