Mighty No. 9

Update: The Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter campaign has entered its final hours and stands at $ 3.5 million as of this writing. With this fans have been able to unlock a variety of stretch goals that include: additional content and bosses, current and next generation console versions, along with 3DS and PS Vita versions. Along with the financial success of this campaign fans will be delighted to learn that Takashi Tateishi, the composer on Mega Man 2, has joined the team. Keiji Inafune, the team leader, was very excited to announce the news in a post on Kickstarter: “…can you just imagine how AMAZING the Mighty No. 9 soundtrack is going to be?! Even better, all three of these game-music legends are good friends, so they are super excited to be working together again! Ahhhh — we can’t wait to hear what this trio come up with!” The original story follows.

The creator of Capcom’s most prolific franchise has now launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a new game inspired by Mega Man. Mighty No. 9 is a Japanese side-scrolling game, that reminds us of games from the 8 and 16 bit era. The player will take control of Beck, the 9th robot in a line of powerful robots. He is immune to a virus that has forced all robots to go berserk and must stop them. You must run, blast, jump and transform over the course of 8 stages to confront the evil that threatens the planet. Transformation will be a big part of the game and change it accordingly. For example. Beck’s limbs could become magnets, which would allow him to climb and rip away enemies’ shields.

The game has passed its goal of $900,000 and stands at $1.5 million as of this writing. This Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9 has several stretch goals, which includes extra levels, Mac/Linux version of the game and the ultimate goal – for $2.5 million the game will come out on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Keiji Inafune, the co-designer and illustrator of the Mega Man, will be leading the team full of Mega Man veteran developers and fans of the series. Inafune was involved in the creation of over 30 titles from this series. He is the former head of R&D at Capcom and has worked on some other great games series – Onimusha and Dead Rising. He left Capcom in late 2010 to found his own development studio – Comcept.
