Deus Ex: Universe Announced

Deus Ex Universe

A new Deus Ex game is already underway in production at the studios for developer Eidos Montral, as was recently announced by studio head David Anfossi in a blog post.  Titled Deus Ex: Universe, it’s being developed for next-gen consoles, as well as the PC.  But beyond that, the studio is looking to add to the Deus Ex franchise in a much bigger way.  As is explained by Anfossi, they’re looking to “deliver a deep conspiracy” across multiple games and media – meaning that there will be roles in the franchise and game also played on tablets, smartphones, books, and graphic novels.  “The concept behind Deus Ex: Universe is to create an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.”  The game is “already into production of the starting point for Deus Ex: Universe with a new game for PC and next-generation consoles.”  And “most” of the team from Deus Ex: Human Revolution is involved.

Anfossi also shared a piece of concept art (seen above) that reflects the game’s intended theme, which is that of “trans-humanism segregation.”  As Anfossi explains, “The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance.”

With this also came the announcement for a release date of Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut, which will be available in North America October 22, and Europe October 25.  It will be available on the Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, and will incorporate a second screen experience via the SmartGlass, GamePad, and Playstation Vita, likely in it of itself a hint of things to come in terms of Universe’s use of next generation technology.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a cyber-punk action RPG developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix.  It was released in 2011 to universal acclaim and financial success.  Deus Ex: Universe will mark the fifth game in the franchise.
