Nintendo News: Wii Games Discounted and StreetPass Relay Points Not Working

So I have for you today a few fun tidbits of Nintendo News. First off, let’s talk about a recent price drop on some popular Wii games. The three titles that have been discounted are Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Sports Resort. If you haven’t already gotten your hands on these great Nintendo titles, you can now pick them up for $29.99. Super Mario Galaxy 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are the two more popular of the three. Super Mario Galaxy 2 has sold 2.7 million copies here in North America, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold a whopping 9.4 million copies here in North America alone. Being that the titles are so popular still, I can partially understand as to why it’s taken Nintendo this long to do a price cut on these titles, but at the same time, I think price cuts on these games were long over due. Some of you may be asking, “Well, why Wii games and not Wii U or 3DS titles?” Keep in mind, folks, you can play all Wii titles on your Wii U.

Another Nintendo-themed news bit for you is that their latest Nintendo 3DS feature, the StreetPass relay points, aren’t working as they were intended to. For those of you unfamiliar with the StreetPass relay points, basically it’s a new service free from Nintendo that allows one to visit any number of Nintendo Zone locations and store data and swap fun stuff out with the last person that visited that location. And the person that comes after you gets access to you and so on. This whole relay points system was to make it easier for people who play a lot of the StreetPass mini games, where in order to get past certain levels, you may need the aid of a fellow Mii. Back in early August, there was an update for 3DS systems that added new features to the Mii Plaza, along with four new mini games that you could buy separately or as a package deal. These four mini-game titles raked in about $4 million in just one month alone.

Nintendo has been asked about the subject, but they’ve yet to announce anything about the non-functioning StreetPass relay points.
