GP Picks 9-20-13
This week’s GP Picks is brought to you by Grand Theft Auto V. Probably the biggest game of the year, it’s amazing, just go get it. This edition is going to be very easy.
Welcome, gamers and players, to this week’s edition of GP Picks. As you can tell by the introduction, there’s already a guaranteed title on the list and quite frankly it overshadows everything being released this week. That said, there is one other game worth playing. The Wonderful 101 isn’t it, don’t be fooled. However, you’ve got the right platform.
This week’s retro pick is The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, which is also being released for the Wii U via the Nintendo eShop in glorious HD. It has been ten years since the release of The Wind Waker and it’s a favorite of a lot of people. Maybe it’s the pirate aspirations, maybe it’s the cartoony, cel-shaded version of Link, or maybe it’s Tingle. Oh yes. Tingle, the the middle-aged man obsessed with the Forest Fairies and wears a tight green leotard and red speedos…on the outside. Or maybe it’s just the strength of the gameplay and dungeon design. Either way, it’s a great game to play again for the nostalgia or for the first time. Pick up the original GameCube version or buy the HD re-release on the Wii U eShop.
Zelda is all good but we all know what game you should pick up this week. Grand Theft Auto V was released this week and everyone is freaking out about it, with good reason as it’s amazing. The latest in the GTA series has not one but three main protagonists. Franklin, an up and coming criminal, Michael, a retired former thief now back in the game, and Trevor, Michael’s former partner and drug abusing psychopath. This game takes place in Los Santos, last seen in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and it has more detail and more to do than ever before. Play Tennis, go see a movie, race in illegal street races, or just cause general mayhem. Each character has a special ability such as enhanced driving and can be used to push the odds in your favor. The missions and characters are some of the best designs in the series’ history and it makes for a fun time. Pick up GTA V on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
And there you have it. Another week, another collection of games to spend your money on. Each week, I’ll recommend games for you all to play. As always, these aren’t reviews so much as they are suggestions, as I won’t weigh pros and cons of the game. These choices will be new games released that week, but sometimes I will choose games with new downloadable content. I’ll also recommend older retro titles because sometimes you need to retreat to move forward! I’ll do this segment every Friday so feel free to let me know what titles you’d like to see on GP Picks by sending me a tweet @Colorwind with the hashtag #GPPicks. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to play more Grand Theft Auto V. There’s a stripper who’s number I want to get, among other things.
