Pay Day 2 Impressions

Posted August 14, 2013 by Leeroy Jenkins in Previews

Pay Day 2 is the hottest topic in video games right now and I have to say that it is more than deserving as it is the most entertaining first person shooter available. The way this game presents itself is unique with a ton of underlying layers that deserve to be peeled back and dissected. Let me start off by saying this is a game that needs to be experienced with friends so that four of you are cooperating and coordinating some of the greatest bank robberies of all time. If you don’t play with friends, you’re going to be stuck with some AI that don’t know what you’re going to do next.

Pay Day 2 is a game based fully on impulse and reactions to certain situations since the maps and enemies are randomly generated each play through that you complete. When you select a contract from and deploy on a mission, you and your three friends have to use the skills that you specialize in to, to make sure that you are being the most optimal team member that you can be. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the holy trinity system is exactly what players need to feel special. And by holy trinity, I mean the fact that each player has an important role and they will live up to it when on a mission.

There are two ways that you can go about your business when playing Pay Day 2 and that is the way of stealth or organized chaos. Either way I find that both are extremely fun and almost addictive when you are playing with your friends. If you go with stealth, you have to coordinate with each other to put your masks on at the right time, control the crowd, and make sure that no alarm of any kind can go off. There is no better feeling in the world than when you get away from a crime scene and the police were not alerted in any way. There’s also no better feeling than when cops come storming in to the bank you’re in and you already have trip mines and C4 planted on the front door and back entrances.

The graphics have improved since the beta and although at times it does feel like you are murdering an entire army of cops on each mission, the game is meant to over the top in that sense. Make sure that when you go in to rob a bank or jewelry store that you have a team that is good at thinking on their feet for stealth but can also shoot straight when the bullets start flying. Every Pay Day will provide you with several dollars in cash and the chance for a mask, weapon modification, or extra money at the end of each mission. No matter what happens in the future, Pay Day 2 has launched with extreme success and will continue to provide thieves with fun and entertainment.
