Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ Coming to Steam

Posted August 12, 2013 by Kat in News

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ will be available for download on Steam with an officially announced release date of September 25th.  This comes as an alternative to those who don’t own the Championship Edition DX, which is getting a free “+” edition this summer that will add additional content.  The follow-up to the 2007 Pac-Man Championship Edition that was first Pac-Man to be released under the label of Namco Generations.  The game has already been made available for pre-order on Steam, promising the same additional content in the full edition that, from what we can tell, is going to be made free to those who already own the Championship Edition DX.

Additional content that will be included in both versions will include four additional courses, two songs, improved leaderboards, achievements, and medals, as well as graphics that allow players to skin the game with the sights and sounds of other Namco Bandai classics such as Dig Dug, Rally-X, and the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventure cartoon series.

While the original Pac-Man Championship Edition was considered to be the first real follow-up in the series since Ms. Pac-Man, the Championship Edition DX was met with even more favorable reviews, with commenters calling it an improvement over the first in every way, which resulted in a 93 on Metacritic, and accolades at GOTY time.  The DX edition added an extra ghost to the game, which remains stationary until Pac-Man moves past him, then follows him around the maze, with an increasingly large number of ghosts that follow the player, offering considerably more bonus if Pac-Man is able to eat them.

The free “+” edition, as announced by Namco Bandai at E3, will be made available to Windows and consoles later this summer.  The full Steam edition will be available September 25th with an asking price of $10.
