In a recent quarterly profit report for Nintendo, it stated that Nintendo made a profit of $88.2 million, but on the downside of the report, it shows that Nintendo’s Wii U sales have gone down quite a bit during the months between April and June. Within that time period, Nintendo has only sold around 160,000 consoles worldwide. More specifically, they sold 60,000 Wii U’s here in North America, 90,000 Wii U’s in Japan, and only 10,000 of the consoles sold over in Europe. As of the end of the month of June, the worldwide sales of Wii U’s held at around 3.61 million.

Nintendo saw better numbers with their handheld system, the Nintendo 3DS. Within the same period, they sold 1.4 million 3DS’s worldwide. 400,000 over in Europe, 640,000 in Japan, and 360,000 here in North America. All of this not being too surprising since Nintendo released some highly anticipated titles within that time period, such as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

As for the sales of Nintendo Wii U games, that number is around 1.03 million in the same time period, between April and June. Keep in mind, this isn’t including sales of Nintendo’s most recent game release of the summer, Pikmin 3. Nintendo said that the lack of games sales is due to “the release of few key first-party titles this quarter to strongly drive the hardware sales.”

All of this is understandable of course, because as we all know, not too many titles were released with the console. Many Nintendo favorites were non-existent with the debut of the Wii U. But all of this will be soon to change with all of the main titles that are coming out within the next year. Nintendo believes game sales and console sales will go up quite a bit in the coming months with titles such as The  Legend of Zelda : The Wind Waker HD, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Part U and Wii U Fit all coming out before the end of the year. And we can’t forget the titles coming next year, Super Smash Bros., Zelda U, and Mario Kart 8.

Good things are coming out for the Wii U, so regardless of the numbers now, we will start seeing the numbers go up soon enough.
