Super Mario 3D World Coming to Wii U in December
It was announced during Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct for E3 that the mysterious 3D Mario title that Nintendo has been working on has been confirmed. The latest in the 3D Mario series is Super Mario 3D World coming to the Nintendo Wii U sometime this December, just in time for Christmas.
In this latest title, you can play up to four players simultaneously. You can play as Toad, Princess Peach and Luigi as you aid Mario in this new 3D world adventure. Playing as the multiple characters will bring back memories for those of us who played Super Mario Bros. 2, released back on the NES back in 1988. Just like back in Super Mario Bros. 2, each character has their own little traits that cause them to differ from one another. Toad, for example, is faster. Peach can float for a short period of time while jumping. And Luigi can jump further and higher.
In this latest installment to the series, we can expect to see some somewhat familiar objects and characters. From what I saw in the footage, there is a Yoshi, a giant Yoshi, but he is orange and functions as some kind of life raft. They’re even bring back good ol’ Chargin’ Chuck! The slightly larger Koopa, that has an incredible love for football, and trampling Mario. Something similar to that of Kuribo’s Shoe (Super Mario Bros. 3), but instead of a shoe, we see more of an ice skate! And of course we can expect your typical Goombas and different variations of Pokey, the little cactus-ball guys.
I always love it when you can get a brand-spanking new game in a certain franchise, and still have that nostalgia of all the older games that laid the path for the newer ones. Like take what I just talked about for an example, all the old characters we know and love (and possibly hate at times), mixed in with some newer elements and characters. What can I say? Even though I love these new games, I’m still a sucker for gaming nostalgia.
And last but not least, in the trailer, they debuted a new suit. By getting this awesome little golden bell, Mario can transform into a yellow cat! And while Mario’s is yellow, Luigi dons a green cat costume, Princess Peach’s is pink, and Toad’s cat suit is blue. With this new cat suit, Mario and company are able to scale walls, climb various objects such as poles, and use neat pounce attacks to attack his enemies.
So many good things coming to us in this game, from new fiends, to the new cat suit, and whatever other surprises the game may hold. I honestly cannot wait for this game’s release. Now to entertain myself with all of the other Mario games that I own and hold dear to hold me off until December gets here, when Super Mario 3D World is set to finally release. Let’s just say…I already know what’s going on my Christmas list this year!
