Take-Two Announces WWE 2K14’s Release Date

Posted May 14, 2013 by Felisha "Nightingale" Silva in News

2K Sports’ WWE 2K14 will be released on October 29th of this year, as announced by Take-Two Interactive, it’s parent company. Take-Two Interactive had bought the rights to the World Wrestling Entertainment license for video games back in February of this year, after THQ went and filed for bankruptcy and sold all of their assets individually to multiple gaming companies. Take-Two Interactive later on had stated that the game will be entitled WWE 2K14. It’s said that the game will be released on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3, but the earnings release states that it will be available “across all major platforms and distribution channels.” So perhaps we will see it on the Wii U, and possibly on the next-gen consoles as well, Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox 720.

Take-Two Interactive also noted that WWE will still continue to be developed under Visual Concepts (Made popular for their NBA series) and Yuke’s (Known best for Rumble Roses, WWE Day of Reckoning, WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw) over in Osaka, Japan, and “will combine the studio’s signature gameplay with 2K’s commitment to authenticity.” This new partnership will cancel out all previous World Wrestling Entertainment and Yuke’s contracts, which has let the companies sign new deals with Take-Two Interactive. And it was also stated that as part of the deal, THQ will be paying WWE $650,000 in royalty payments for all of their games sold while under bankruptcy protection.

Though not too many details have been released just yet on the latest in the WWE series, it is known for a fact that we can expect to see Dwayne Johnson, aka, The Rock, on the game’s cover. Hopefully as time goes on, we will get more details on this latest installment into the WWE game series.
