Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Impressions

The Call of Juarez series is a western, first person shooter that has been around for years and the game has hit another homerun with the release of Gunslinger. Several critics have said that this game is long needed for the series since Bound in Blood did not live up to a lot of the expectations that gamers had, with the original being as amazing as it was. Something to remember is that this is considered the Call of Duty for western style shooters, unlike Red Dead games or any other titles so it has a lot to live up to. I have to say that with how far I’ve gotten in to the game already, it’s extremely hard to put it down and I almost had to take a sick day out of work just to chase down Billy the Kid after five levels of dealing with his outlaws.

I feel as though they went back to the roots of focusing on the gameplay itself though, and as I’ve always said, that is the top selling point for a game. As you fire every shot from your six shooter, the blast rings louder than anything else in the vicinity and when you land a shot, it feels like you just killed someone in a Quentin Tarantino film as blood splats from their head, chest, or anywhere else you manage to puncture. The story and graphics are great, but the fact that you feel in control of this shooter and like the dominating factor when you’re running through the forest, gunning down criminals, is the best feeling a first person shooter junkie can get.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is the best game of the series and from trademark ‘quick draw’ duels to drinking games at the bar, this game offers something to everyone and I can’t wait to see what direction they take in the future is this is where the developer’s mindset is.
