If you are wondering when Microsoft’s next console will be announced, wonder no more! Maybe. I don’t really know. Just keeping wonder. Sorry. Still, according to Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian, Microsoft is preparing to announce the Xbox 720 in May. This comes from a note to Electronic Arts investors today with Sebastian claiming that the announcement will be the reactant or “catalyst” for shares. However, no information in reference to an exact date or a venue for the announcement was mentioned.

This information is a bit contrast from previous reports that suggest that Microsoft would hold a media event to announce the next Xbox later this month. Microsoft themselves have not officially spoken about the Xbox 720 or whatever its final name is, though speculation around the obviously in development console has been rampant. Recently, GameStop CEO Paul Raines said that after spending “a lot of time” with Microsoft, the console is a “very hot, compelling device,” and that the “world is going to stand up and take notice” when the console is finally revealed and detailed.

In regards to Sebastian’s comments, a Microsoft representative has told GameSpot, “We do not comment on rumors or speculation. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform, but we don’t have anything further to share at this time.” Past reports have suggested that the next Xbox will require Kinect or a new revamped version of Kinect, require an Internet connection at all times, block used games and feature Siri-like voice recognition. Other features have been detailed as well but on scam sites that have been surfacing online.

The rumor mill will be running wild until the next Xbox is finally revealed and then even after that, it will be there to fill in the cracks that Microsoft neglected to fill. So what do you think about the next Xbox being announced in May? Leave a comment below and let us know.
