The Walking Dead Season 2 Coming Fall 2013
Telltale Game’s The Walking Dead series of games has been immensely successful, winning numerous awards and being many gaming publication’s choice for game of the year. With the release of the fifth episode at the end of last year finishing the first season of the game, it’s no surprise that a second season will be on the way. Telltale has revealed that the company hopes to release the next series of episodes for The Walking Dead in 2013.
Originally, it was thought that the next season would be released in 2014 due to an interview Eurogamer had with Telltale CEO Dan Conners after winning the Best Story BAFTA Game Award for The Walking Dead in which he said the company was “aiming for fall next year.” However, afterward Telltale clarified with Game Informer, confirming that The Walking Dead season two would be coming some time this year in the fall, not next year.
“The current estimated release window for Season Two of The Walking Dead is for fall of this year (2013), and not next year (2014) as has been reported after a recent interview. We apologize for any confusion and thank you and all of our fans for your continued excitement for Telltale’s series.”
Conners also reconfirmed that there will be some kind of content before season 2 to hold gamers over. “We’ll probably have something to announce fairly soon about what we’re going to do,” he teased. “It’ll be different.”
Since the game is coming around the same time as the PlayStation 4, the question arose about whether the second season of The Walking Dead would be released on next generation consoles. When asked, Conners didn’t confirm but suggested that if they were to do that, they would work with Sony in order to allow your PS3 saves from the first season carry over to the PS4 so you can keep your progress from the previous game. However, it was confirmed that PS3 saves would not carry over to the PS4 so this could be an issue for Telltale.
“Season two will read what you did in Season one and that will tailor some of the things that happened in Season two,” he said. “They’ll be a lot more social and in-between episode features for Season 2 that definitely exploit what the new platforms have to offer. We’re super-excited about PlayStation 4 and what all the other big console manufacturers have in store.”
