Square Enix dishes some Tomb Raider stats
Tomb Raider is more popular than ever before with this out of the park prequel that shows the true survival skill of players. I remember the first time that I experienced the whole “world wide stats” thing was during a multiplayer lobby in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and I thought that it was so cool that that was the case, however, I also thought ‘hmmm, pretty smart of them to come up with a number and update that information’. There’s something about the overall game stats that makes players want more in a way, probably because they feel like something bigger than just what they have done.
If this tracking is all true then players, collectively, have killed millions of animals and people alike as well as raided over three million tombs. Now I know that in my Lara Croft adventures in this prequel, I think I raided six tombs and killed maybe 20 animals. Now that may not seem like a lot, that’s because it is not even close to accurate when there is a tool saying millions of differences. I am a skeptic by nature, typically, so it’s normal for me not to believe these stats but it is still a nice feature that is not required in Tomb Raider and adds it a little flash.
Just like some other features in the game like some animations as well as all of the hidden secrets on the island, if those weren’t in the game, it would still have millions of things accomplished as well as be on its way for a Game of the Year Award. Tomb Raider may be releasing some pretty impressive stats here, but one has to wonder, where are the numbers of the sales and how much money the game has made?
