Gaming on a Budget 2-20-13

Dead Space 3

Is going out to eat for you a luxury? Do you live paycheck to paycheck? Does spending $60 on a game seem silly when you can get two or three games for that amount? Then you’ve come to the right place! Gaming on a Budget highlights various deals around the web where you can go buy or download awesome games for less than the expected price. If your money is in short supply, look no further!

One good thing about playing games on the PC is prices fall rather quickly. Case in point: Hitman: Absolution for the PC is on sale for $16.49 over on When you buy it, you’ll get a code to redeem on Steam so if you’ve been on the fence about this game, like I have, now is a great time to drop a little bit of cash to get your assassin fix. If you want the professional edition that gets you some additional DLC, digital art book and making of video, that’ll run you $19.99.

Don’t you love it when brand new games go on sale? Dead Space 3 right now is 33% off over at GameStop despite being released only two weeks ago. If 60 dollars seemed too much for the latest entry in this survival horror franchise, you can pick up either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions for $39.99. What’s strange is a used copy will cost you $47.99 because, you know, that makes sense. If Dead Space 3 isn’t your bag (baby), Far Cry 3 can also be had on the 360 or PS3 for $39.99 new or $47.99 used. Used prices need to be fixed, GameStop!

Gamefly is having their weekly Midweek Meltdown sale and XCOM: Enemy Unknown can be downloaded onto your PC for half price. Yup, instead of dropping 50 bones on the highly rated return of the XCOM series, you’ll only have to pay $24.99. Whether you like mouse and keyboard controls or a gamepad, the PC version can do both so it’s definitely the way to go if you’ve got a rig that can run it.

Over on the Xbox Live Marketplace, there’s a sale on Elder Scrolls titles. Skyrim can be bought digitally for $39.99 but even better is Oblivion which can be yours for only $9.99! That’s a whole lot of game for only 10 bucks! Oblivion’s two expansion packs, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, are also on sale for 600 MSP or $7.50 and 200 MSP or $2.50 respectively. That’s a whole lot of questing!

Not to be outdone, Sony is giving PlayStation Plus subscribers two awesome games for free: Vanquish for the PS3 and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X for the PSP. For those who don’t know, Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remake of the original Mega Man X and a well done one at that. Yet another reason to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber. Another week down the drain and while you may be a little more poor than you used to be, you’re not as poor as you could’ve been. Just your pal Colorwind doing his job, saving you money and getting you great games. Maybe you won’t be able to afford the upcoming new Sony console but that doesn’t mean there’s not good games you can get cheap. Until next time, there’s nothing wrong with being thrifty with your money until the right deal comes around.
