Sequels Kill Creativity

Video games have been around for as long as I can remember and as many of you can imagine by that statement, a LOT of sequels have been made. Many of us have been asking and wondering, however, if the sequels are good or if they are just some sort of cop out for developers to not have to make any new games. I have seen so many gamers differ on this view in so many ways. Some gamers think that at this point, there should be no more new ideas because the makers should just be building off of the ones that have already surfaced and tey can make them better.

I personally think that it’s all about perspective and how you look at what the sequel is about and what game it’s for because a game like Assassin’s Creed III probably did not look as good as it is now but the game has won several awards and is even being called by some and most, the best game ever created. I think that if the game was a huge success, then a sequel is the next best thing because you may see some of your favorite characters again on all new adventure or even the other way around, same setting, new faces.

However, there doesn’t seem to be a game title out there today that isn’t followed by some number ( a ton of them seem to have the number three following it). I don’t think that there should be this many games out there with numbers behind them or even if it’s just a sequel, the creativity side has gone down but the good thing is, is that half of the games with sequels out are just really good games so it’s hard to complain.
