Planetside 2 Beta Review

The Planetside 2 Beta has been out for quite some time now and fans of the upcoming game are a bit torn on whether or not this beta was considered ‘good’ or not. The thing that most players need to remember when they sign up for a beta, or even when they log on every time is that they are signing on for a beta, which means they are testing an unfinished problems which means one thing; there’s going to be problems. Gamers have been so spoiled by the great games lately that perfection is expected nowadays and if they want that, a beta and your honest opinion on it is virtually required.

Getting to the game, I can see why gamers are a little bit torn in that the game is vast and exciting but at the same time, being a bit spoiled myself, the graphics feel a little like a Doom or Quake game. It’s a bit choppy when you’re charging a base or holding off a fortification and at times it feels as though I need to empty an entire clip of two different weapons to get a kill. The good side of the game is how big it is, you feel like you can explore a battlefield and if you run in to an enemy soldier while doing so, the engagement is quite an adrenaline rush. When the game does go live, it’s going to be pretty interesting to see how Sony Online Entertainment has implanted changes and listened to the feedback from the beta since I know I’ve certainly give my opinion on a lot of things.

The main positive of Planetside 2 Beta is that it feels so balanced and one team rarely just absolutely dominates the other team and that is so important in a massive multiplayer shooter online game. Sony Online Entertainment has done right with the beta so far and it will be interesting to see the improvements made for the live game.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s huge and a ton of fun, but it’s so hard to remember it’s a beta sometimes with graphics and all that.
