Nintendo’s “I’m Not A Gamer” Advertising Campaign

In an attempt to reach out to non-gamers, Nintendo has started a new advertising campaign where well-known actors and athletes star in the ads playing their new 3DS XL’s talking about how they use their 3DS and what they use them for personally, stating at the end of the ad, “But I’m not a gamer”.

People are taking this type of advertising as a mistake on Nintendo‘s part, focusing on their non-gamer clientele. But after they say “But I’m not a gamer”, they say they’re something else, pertaining to the game they were playing in the commercial.

For example, in the advertisement starring Olympic athlete  Gabrielle Douglas after she says “But I’m not a gamer”, She follows through saying, “I’m a point-collecting champion”. So as the advertisement campaign may still seem confusing to some, I get the gist of it. Nintendo could have done better with their latest advertisement, but all in all, this was their way of reaching out to the “non-hardcore-gamers” of their fanbase, and that Nintendo is a gaming company for all.
