Nintendo Direct October 2012 Presentation Wrap-Up

Nintendo recently released its latest Nintendo Direct presentation video and it was all about the Nintendo 3DS. Handheld gamers have a lot to be excited for as several new announcements were made and some rumored news was confirmed. Some games were already known such as the upcoming Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but the biggest announcements were about two new 3DS titles, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Fire Emblem: Awakening.

The latest title in the Animal Crossing series has been talked about a lot in the video game industry but has never been formally acknowledged by the big N until now. Furthermore, it has a new name, New Leaf. The game will put players in the role of town mayor, which will open up a plethora of new options. Gamers will be able to decorate and guide how their town will grow at a level of detail not previously possible in older games. The game is set to be released for the 3DS in the first half of 2013.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said back during this year’s E3 2012 that the Fire Emblem series would be coming to the 3DS. Nintendo has yet to say another word about this since but during the presentation, Fire Emblem: Awakening was formally announced. Awakening will follow the story of Chrom as he and his army battles an opponent that looks a lot like Marth. The turn-based strategy game is supposed to be available on American shores “in a few more months” and Nintendo is promising DLC for the game in the future.

It was also announced that Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (coming Oct. 28 to retail and the eShop) would receive a new puzzle to download every day for a year free of charge. New Super Mario Bros 2 also has new map packs available to download now. A considerable amount of time was given to Paper Mario: Sticker Star (coming Nov. 11 to retail and the eShop) and a variety of casual and downloadable titles were mentioned as well. Watch the entire Nintendo Direct presentation to see all the games in action.

Although we’ve already seen it several times and there are already review copies floating around, Paper Mario: Sticker Star looks really good and I don’t get tired of seeing it. Fire Emblem: Awakening is also shaping up to be a great title as well. Overall, I think this was a pretty good presentation from Nintendo but what do you think? What games are you looking forward to from the presentation? What did you think of the presentation itselt? The comment section below demands your input! Also, Paper Mario: Sticker Star has a goat!

Hey! I'm Esteban, my gamer handle is Colorwind, and I'm a video game blogger. As such, here's some gamer facts about me. The first game I ever played was Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The first console I ever owned was the NES. My favorite genre of games are action adventure games with fighting games being a close second. My favorite console is the Sony PlayStation. I currently own a Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, N64, Genesis and NES. My favorite console this generation is the Xbox 360. My favorite Mortal Kombat character is Scorpion with Ermac, Baraka, and Mileena being close runner-ups. I LOVE SNK fighters like Samurai Shodown, Art of Fighting 3 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves. My favorite Street Fighter title is Street Fighter Alpha 3 with Street Fighter III: Third Strike being a close second. The most obvious thing in the world is that Sonic is my favorite video game character.
