Xbox 360 gamers! You will be getting some real reward for your gamerscore now! All those achievements you gotten will now nab you something. Microsoft unveiled its plans to offer discounts and gifts based on gamerscore. Unfortunately, it isn’t anything to get excited for.

There are three different levels. The first is if you have at least 3,000 achievement points. You will be marked a Contender and will receive a special gift on your birthday month. If you have at least 10,000 achievement points, you’ll earn the rank of Champion and receive a 1% rebate on all your Xbox Live purchases. Accumulate 25,000 achievement points or more and you’ll be branded a Legend and will receive 2% rebate on all your Xbox Live purchases.

Champions and Legends also will receive the special birthday month gift. No word on what the special gift will be. The “current phase” of the offer runs through June of 2013. Here’s the site to sign up for your Xbox Live Rewards.

This new promotion is nice in that we who have a lot of achievement points do get something for all the work we’ve done. However, what’s being offered here is pretty paltry. While I’m sure 2% a month would add up and even 1%, the reward is still pretty low. Furthermore the only way to take advantage of these rewards is to give more money to Microsoft. Honestly, gamers are not being rewarded for their gamerscore so much as the achievement points are being used as a rebate multiplier for purchases and a terrible multiplier at that.

Those signed up to the Xbox Live Rewards program can also earn points by renewing their Xbox Live Gold service and doing monthly surveys as well as using Netflix and referring friends. What are you thoughts on this new promotion? Worth it or disappointing? Comment below and let us know.

Hello. I'm Esteban Sky Cuevas aka Colorwind and I'm the managing editor for Gaming Precision. I've been gaming ever since I was six years old when I played Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at someone's house and then begged for a video game console. That console was a NES but I quickly moved on to a SNES, Genesis, PS1, N64, Atari 2600, Game Boy Color, Dreamcast, PS2, Saturn, GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and 3DS. I like all genres of video games but I'm partial to Platform titles, Action Adventure games, and fighters. I love old SNK fighters like Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury, and my favorite video game character is Sonic the Hedgehog. My top five consoles are in reverse order the Xbox 360, SNES, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Genesis and Sony PlayStation, although I often talk about how the Sega Saturn deserves more attention than it got.
