Free-for-All Mode Revealed for Gears of War Judgment

Posted August 28, 2012 by Esteban Cuevas in News

Developer People Can Fly is currently co-developing a prequel to Epic Games’ Gears of War series and it has been striving to make the upcoming game, Gears of War Judgment, their own. In addition to basing the single player campaign around series favorites Damon Baird and Augustus Cole, a new multiplayer mode called OverRun was introduced to diversify the online options. Publisher Microsoft today revealed another new multiplayer mode being included in the game and although it isn’t an original idea, it brings a mode fans of other Epic Games titles like Unreal Tournament should enjoy.

Entitled Free-for All, the mode completely does away with the team premise and every player for themselves is the new law. Although not a uncommon mode in other shooters, this is the first time such a mode has been available in a Gears of War title. Gears of War has always been a team tactics type of multiplayer game so this is actually a significant departure. There appears to be no restrictions as to who the player can play as. So enjoy COG soldiers curb stomping fellow COG soldiers and Locust gunning down other Locust. The new mode will be showcased and playable at PAX Prime this week.

Two new maps will also be shown at PAX Prime. The first map entitled Gondola looks like a upper class villa that is described as being in the “prestigious Agora foothills.” The level depicts both a serene community and a town with shops and businesses. The second map, known as the Library level, will be inside a library (big shock). It is described as containing various documents and records based on Alexiy Desipich.

Gears of War: Judgment is set to be release on March 19, 2013 and the game is shaping up to be a different experience than what we’ve seen from the series in the past. What do you think of the new modes being included in the game? Do they help keep the game fresh or are they unnecessary additions to an already stellar multiplayer experience? Let us know in the comments.
