Thirsty Thursday

I know I am not alone when I say that the happiest part of my day is when I fill my stomach with something delicious and tasty, most often with Mountain Dew. Video game characters also need that special time of day when they enjoy a quick beverage in order to feel revitalized. Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time for Thirsty Thursday.
The Potion
It only seems appropriate to begin an article about video game drinks with the most drank beverage over all of the virtual space, the Potion. In almost every video game genre, there is the famous potion that can be drunk in order to restore those precious health points needed to keep going. Few things can compare to the feeling of despair when a player has run out of potions half way through a dungeon type area, a person’s healer is almost dead, and you are completely lost. Often colored red, which lends to my theory that these characters are just giving themselves frequent blood transfusions, these magical jars of life often take up more than half of someone’s inventory space.
In the Final Fantasy series, players will rely upon potions to get their spikey haired teenagers to their destination. In the Diablo series, potions are an absolute necessity to take down any boss. I’m convinced that if it wasn’t for potions in the Pokemon series, all the creatures would have brutally murdered each other in battle by now. But wait, what is this?! You too can now partake of this magical beverage as well!
Yes, this is actually real and I had no idea until I started writing this article to be completely honest. The Final Fantasy Potion Energy drink, available in Japan, was released in celebration of Final Fantasy XII, and has been released in different packaging and color for the FF VII 10th Anniversary and for the release of Dissidia, it is the Final Fantasy Potion Energy drink. For those that were actually able to taste it, the drink is supposed to be rather tasty. Not to mention the FF VII anniversary bottles might be one of the coolest drinking bottles I have ever seen.
There are also the Health and Mana Energy Potion and I have actually seen these around in places like Blockbuster and FYE CD stores. I have even gone as far buying and drinking the Health version of the drink, and I will have to say that as far as energy drinks go, it was quite tasty but the price was rather high.
Potions have, and forever will be a staple in video games that have a health bar of some type. They replenish our characters when battling ogres, and the help us in real life when battling reality.
Any particular beverage that should be explored in further Thirsty Thursdays? Let me know!
